How To Stop Online Account Hacking
It is a problem that seems to be worsening and not going away: online player's having their online poker accounts hacked and their funds drained out. It has happened to well-known players as well like Greg Raymer who had his Pokerstars account hacked into. The Hackers even tried to clean out the cash from the account by channeling the money to Sit and Go.
So where does the problem lay? Is it the security that is implemented by the casinos like Pokerstars that have a problem? Or should the online players themselves do more to protect themselves from these hacker attacks.
The security procedures that big online poker rooms implement are quite complex and it would be difficult to hack into the accounts. What is happening is that players are getting victimized by the key loggers that are present on some computers.
A lot of people nowadays also use Instant Messengers like Yahoo! Messenger, MSN and a whole lot more. If a player can be tricked on downloading a file through the messenger, the key logger can be easily included in that download and the password of the player can be easily hacked.
Players should always be wary on who they are talking too and refuse any files that they are being told to download unless they completely trust the person that are telling them to do so. In Greg Raymer's case, his account at PokerStars was compromised due to the fact that the hacker correctly guessed his password.
Passwords especially the ones that are protecting your important documents and accounts should be difficult to guess. The player should never tell anyone their passwords even though they trust the person because the person might mention it to another person who is not trustworthy at all.
A player can also change their password once in a while so that it will be harder to guess. What can online poker rooms do in order to make it more difficult for their players' accounts to be hacked into? Can online casino officials do anything else to protect their customers from this kind of trouble?
It may be a good idea to add second protection aside from the password like putting up a personal question every time a player logs-in. While this is not a sure thing to prevent the accounts from being hacked into, it will be a great help in preventing from the scheme of guessing the passwords.
